The Voss Lab

Meet the Team
Cardiac outflow tract from E11.5 mouse embryo.

About the Lab

Opening Fall 2026 at MTSU!

Work in the Voss Lab is driven by curiosity in fundamental questions surrounding heart development and congenital heart diseases. Specifically, we're interested in how mechanisms that regulate cell identity influence the structure and function of heart cells.

Cell identity isn't just a singular, static event, but rather a continuous, active state that must be maintained and re-established with each cell division. Our current projects focus on how proteins that turn genes off or on can shape cell state and heart formation.

Open Positions

research specialists

We are actively recruiting part-time research specialists to join our lab. The ideal candidate has experience with at least one of the following: mouse colony maintenance, basic molecular biology, and/or sterile cell culture technique. Previous lab experience is a plus. You don't need to know everything, but being highly organized with a positive attitude is a must. This is a great position for a recent graduate looking to gain experience before graduate school or a career in laboratory science.

Graduate students

Graduate students interested in joining the lab should email Dr. Voss with a letter of interest and your CV. References will be requested.

Undergraduate students

Our lab is open to trainees of all experience levels. Highly motivated undergraduate students should email Dr. Voss to discuss opportunities.

The Voss Lab is supported by the Additional Ventures Catalyst to Independence Award
